By Glenn Parton, Host of Wild Earth Conversations
Wild Earth Conversations will discuss the importance of wilderness in our lives. We will ask essential questions: What Is Wilderness? How Much Wilderness Is Enough? Why Do We Need Wilderness? What Can Be Done To Protect And Expand It?
Through Interviews with scientists, activists, artists, socialists, and everyday wildlife lovers we will explore all aspects of this subject toward the goal of understanding what constitutes a Good Life on planet Earth. We will hear from people on the local, regional, and national levels, from all walks of life, who have something unique or important to say about the Ecological/ Biodiversity Crisis we face at this historical moment–which is known as the Sixth Extinction.
This is not a show for debating whether wilderness and wildlife have value. We begin from the conviction that wild beings and wild places have an intrinsic right to live and flourish. From here, we focus on how human beings must change our thinking and behavior so that all life-forms can live well on planet Earth.
Questions of social justice, equality, and equity will only be considered in their deepest sense: how to secure the common ground of peace and prosperity for both humans and nonhumans on a healthy and beautiful planet. This is a political show, but not one centered on identity politics. Instead, we will return often to the promises and problems of socialism because only a new economic vision can offer an alternative to the Earth-destroying systems of global capitalism.
We will include discussions of liberal politics, electoral politics, and socialism, but we will not give a platform to ideologues who insist that human problems must be solved first and foremost, before we can turn our concern to wilderness and wildlife.
Wild Earth Conversations is for those who know that protecting and rewilding the Earth is not a luxury but the necessary foundation of a sane and satisfying world.
